"In Accordance With Public Law 110-181 SEC.598; the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and "in conducting the commemorative program, the Secretary shall coordinate, support, and facilitate other programs and activities of the Federal Government, State and local governments, and other persons and organizations in commemoration of the Vietnam War."
From the President -
Welcome to our updated website and we are pleased to announce that we have changed our name from Georgia Veterans Day Parade Association of Atlanta, Inc. to our new name of Georgia Veterans Day Association, Inc.
While this name change may not appear significant, it does outline the transformation that has taken place since the association began. In addition to the annual Atlanta Veterans Day Parade, our association hosts the annual black-tie Freedom Ball at the Oceans Ballroom in the Georgia Aquarium, a Veterans Festival located near our parade route, and other events throughout the year to support our Veterans Day events.
Our growth has only been possible through the hard work of our board of directors and volunteers, our event participants, and our valued sponsors. Most importantly, we are very proud that you all have enabled us to complete our mission of honoring our Nation's Veterans. We owe them so much for the freedoms and security that they have provided.
The name change does not reflect a change in our mission or our structure. We are still a 100% volunteer based association and no officer, director, or volunteer receives any compensation for their hard work. Each member of our team is here to honor our Veterans.
As we continue planning this year's events, please mark your calendars for 12 November 2016 - our event date! The 35th Annual Atlanta Veterans Day Parade will take place at 11:11am and the Freedom Ball follows that evening at 6:00pm. We will be making a Grand Marshal and Keynote Speaker announcement very shortly.
Thanks for your continued support of our association and for our Nation's Veterans. I look forward to working with you and seeing you all in November.
Kevin L Miller
